Rick, Brooks, and David have had the opportunity to work in some of the remote villages in Alaska. One village in particular, that Rick has done a lot of work in is Savoonga , on St. Lawrence Island, in the Bering Sea. The island is actually located only 4o miles from Siberia. The native Yupik's (Eskimos) are descendants of Russian Eskimos. Many of them are world famous ivory carvers.
Bob and Fritz are two Yupik's from Savoonga. They are Rick's helpers when he is there working in their village.
The newest house in Savoonga, Alaska is adorned with polar bear skin and whale baleen.
Bowhead whale meat aging on a meat pole. (Mukluk)- whale blubber can be seen down on the end, also called Eskimo ice cream -Yumm!

This is one of the carvings Rick brought home. The whale is walrus ivory and the base is a walrus vertebrae. Brooks and David are on St. Lawerence Island as I make this post.
